An Australian Rough Shoot : Another Memorable Rough Shoot

We were thrilled to welcome back a group of overseas visitors this week — friends who travelled all the way from Australia to join us for another rough shooting day at Kugae Gundogs. Returning for their second consecutive year, their visit was a wonderful reminder of how far a shared passion for shooting and working dogs can reach.

A Warm Welcome and a Day in the Field

The weather gave a very British welcome with on and off rain, but the team were eager to get back out into the Lincolnshire countryside, ready for a traditional British rough shoot. With crisp autumn air and blue skies peeking through the clouds, the conditions couldn’t have been better.

Walking through fields, hedgerows, and woodland edges, our guests enjoyed a full and rewarding day in the field. The Kugae Gundogs team worked brilliantly throughout — flushing game with precision and retrieving cleanly, showing exactly why the partnership between dog and handler is at the heart of every successful day.

Watching the Dogs Work

For many of our visitors, the highlight was watching the dogs at work. There’s something truly special about seeing well-trained gundogs move with purpose and focus, responding calmly to the whistle and handling direction with confidence. Our Australian friends were particularly fascinated by the level of training and control on display — the result of patience, consistency, and mutual trust between Carl and the dogs.

A Successful and Enjoyable Day

After a warming and tasty soup homemade by Karen we got back out into the field. The shooting was steady and enjoyable, the company fantastic, and the dogs on top form. There was plenty of laughter and camaraderie — exactly what makes rough shooting such a rewarding experience!

Looking Forward to Next Year

It’s always an honour to have visitors travel such a long way to join us, and even more special when they choose to return. Days like this capture everything we love about what we do at Kugae Gundogs, great company, skilled dogs, and an appreciation for the sporting countryside.
